Luxury House furniture in leather, wood and chrome is being produced in the capital of art and fashion – Florence. Many greatest artists and writers got their inspiration right here. Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Raphael, Dante, Goethe and Thomas Mann used this area as a platform for their inspiration. They started the tradition of creating the masterpieces perfect in the finest detail. Tradition that we would like to follow.
Hand-made tradition in Italy
The basis for highest quality standards in leather crafts goes back to the ancient Tuscan tradition of making top-quality leather goods. Two main historical factors are present here: a ready available animal hides and the rich supply of water in the Arno and Elsa valleys. That is why the most famous fashion houses such as Gucci, Prada, Emilio Pucci, Coccinelle as well as our production are based in the Florence area.
Skilled Italian craftsmen create superb quality products using the finest leather and the best chromium plating technique. Modern machinery together with a wide range of know-how produce an outstanding results in quality. To all our furniture we apply the following quality criteria: our leather is soft, natural and at the same time durable. It is dyed using certified leather dye and sewn with high-quality threading materials. The cushions are upholstered with soft but shape-retaining filling materials. The welding joints are placed precisely and polished thoroughly. The chromium is of the highest quality, shiny and resistant.
The best leather
Only high-quality 1.5 mm thick calf leather goes into the production of Luxury House Sweden furniture. The hides we use are of European origin. They come from animals that have not suffered any injury during the course of their lives, which means that there are no scars on the surface of the leather. This produces a wonderful leather structure that is entirely natural, so there is no need to use artificial embossing methods.
Employing a traditional method which dates back many centuries, the first step in leather processing at Luxury House Sweden is to salt the hides. This age-old practice is still used today to prevent the hides from decomposing. Before the actual tanning process begins, the hides are trimmed and sorted. Only the best hides are selected for use in the production of our furniture. The hides are tanned slowly and without the use of aggressive solvents so as to produce a soft, natural and long-lasting leather. Next, the leather is impregnated with the required shade of dye using a process known as drum dying. This method ensures that the dye penetrates the full thickness of the leather so that it retains its colour for many years.
The importance of fully-dyed leather becomes apparent during sewing. If the needle penetrates leather which has only been dyed on the surface, small white dots will be left around the stitch because the needle draws part of the non-dyed layer up to the surface when it is removed from the leather. This is not very aesthetically pleasing, particularly on brighter colours of leather. Dying the leather all the way through prevents this from happening.
Our chosen thickness of leather has been tested to ensure that it will not only be long-lasting but will also retain the clean, straight lines characteristic of modern design.
Aniline leather. More beautiful with age
Aniline Leather is dyed through and given only a light surface protection. This allows the leather to breathe, and leaves it extremely comfortable and soft. Aniline leather ages very gracefully. A frequently used sofa in aniline leather acquires its own patina over the years. As with all delicate materials, this natural surface is sensitive and needs careful maintenance.
Our manufacturing of aniline leather requires highly specialized knowledge of tanning, dyeing, sorting and processing. The same level of expertise is required of the furniture manufacturer, who has to select the right leather for each individual furniture model and the right part of the hide for each part of the furniture.
Semi-aniline leather. Soft and supple
Our hides can also be made of semi-aniline leather. After being dyed-through, they are given a light pigmented coating that makes the leather more durable and easier to care for. Our careful dyeing and surface finishing methods ensure that the leather maintains a natural, comfortable touch while making it more resistant to wear and tear, whether it is destined for public or private use. It is easy to clean, and does not age as visibly.
Working with leather
To be able to produce the unique products which express their quality in the finest details we have to use highly skilled seamstresses. Many of them have up to 30 years of experience. They are capable to create the radius of curvature small and harmonious. So that it follows the straight lines so typical and necessary in modern design. It must be followed to meet the specifications of the original design.

Making a leather cushion for LC2 chairs |
Barcelona cushion from inside |
One of the best ways to appreciate their true skill is to look at the perfect corners on a Barcelona armchair. The back and seat cushions of this chair are made up of 32 leather squares which are separated from each other with piping. The corners are the most difficult part of this job, particularly when the angles have to be as precise as this modern classic demands. Creating the perfect piece requires a great deal of skill, expertise and time. This is why even the best seamstress at Luxury House Sweden never makes more than two Barcelona armchairs a day.

While the low-cost version of leather shines almost plastic-like and displays an unnatural-looking stamped pattern, the original Luxury House version of leather has a soft, natural look. This high degree of softness and naturalness which you observe in the Luxury House chair is a direct result of the use of the finest top-quality leather.
You can test this yourself quite simply by visiting our show room in Södra Sandby (just outside Lund in Southern Sweden).
We produce top quality furniture for the modern classics market. Within this market segment we can offer our customers the best prices for an outstanding quality.
On the Internet (a now massive and often confusing market place) you will find these products offered at lower prices. But beware that those are low-cost editions which may sacrifice quality for price. And even though the quality of their leathers may be similar, they will use lower-quality filling materials or less resistant chromium-plating in order to lower production cost.

There are in fact several quality factors which differentiate our products from these low-cost alternatives. We put a maximum attention to the quality of items and to the packaging materials, customer service, a warranty period and a safe delivery by the suppliers as well. To visualize the quality differences in the production methods used, we have made a direct comparison between a Luxury House LC2 chair and chaise longue and the corresponding low-cost items.

Making the chromium plated frame
When it comes to creating the frame for the LC2 armchair by Le Corbusier and making sure that it reflects the original design perfectly, it is not possible to simply bend the corners of the frame because the required curves are too tight and the steel tube would crack. The original angular design can only be reproduced by taking milled tubes with rounded ends and precision-welding them together. The welded curved section is then carefully polished by hand before being dipped in three different galvanising baths (copper, nickel, chromium) to achieve an outstanding chromium thickness of 35 microns.
Chromium plating process (detailed description)
During the actual chromium-plating process, also called bright chromium-plating, the polished steel elements are degreased before being dipped in three different plating baths:
- the copper bath gives the steel a protective coat which inhibits corrosion;
- the nickel bath helps the steel to withstand mechanical impact and abrasion;
- the chrome bath gives the steel its characteristic surface gloss.
Overall the steel tube is coated with a layer 35 microns thick, putting Luxury House chromium-plated products in the highest quality level of industrial products.

The upholstery
When upholstering our furniture, we use long-lasting foam fillings which are highly elastic yet do not lose their shape. That is why our furniture retains its typical shape and elasticity even after many years of use. Depending on the level of comfort required and the position of the upholstery, we use foam fillings with different grades of firmness to cope with the various stresses that will be placed on them. For example, two different materials are used for the LC2 models by Le Corbusier. In some cases the seat cushion is filled with foam, but on request we can make the filling of the seat cushion with highest quality feathers.
The wood
All of the woods we use are slow-growing species, since these are more stable and long-lasting. The high-quality wood we select is dried slowly by natural methods. This prevents any distortion, cracking or splintering, and ensures that the wood retains its beauty and resilience for many years. We choose the exact type of wood prescribed by the designer of the piece of furniture we are making. The Nelson bench is made of American walnut, the Lounge Chair by Charles Eames is made of top-quality palisander veneer, and the Barcelona daybed by Mies van der Rohe is made of varnished walnut of exotic origin.
Luxury House Sweden will enable you to pass the everlasting classics from generation to generation.
